Germany, April 2024 - Flor de Caña Rum, the world's first carbon-neutral and fair trade certified spirit, has announced the start of registrations for the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge 2024. A unique platform that aims to inspire the global bartending community and promote sustainable mixology to create a greener future together.
Bartenders in Germany who want to showcase their talent and creativity in making sustainable cocktails can register for the competition from now until June by visiting www.flordecanachallenge.com and following a few simple steps. The website contains detailed information about the criteria, guidelines and terms of the competition.
The initiative invites bars and bartenders to create sustainable cocktails using Flor de Caña rum and sustainable ingredients and techniques. These original cocktail creations are not only offered on the menu. The bartenders also take part in the competition with their ideas, in which the most creative and tastiest drinks made from sustainable ingredients are chosen. The winning bars and bartenders from each country will then qualify to take part in the regional final in Madrid, where six representatives from Austria and Germany will compete with other European bartenders for a place in the global final of the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge. This will be held in Nicaragua in 2025.
As part of this platform, Flor de Caña will also work closely with bar managers and bartenders to demonstrate the importance and benefits of sustainable practices for day-to-day operations. The brand is partnering with the Sustainable Restaurant Association, a UK-based non-profit organization promoting sustainability in bars and restaurants, which will provide resources and guidance to participants.
Sascha Grundmann from Yaldy in Frankfurt represented Germany in the global final of the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge 2023, from which Julie Nguyen from Opium Bar in Thailand emerged as the winner, followed by Andrea Marseglia from Teresa Cocktail Bar in New Zealand in second place and Lacey-Jane Roberts from Published on Main Bar in Canada in third place.
Over 30 countries are taking part in the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge, which celebrates Flor de Caña's historic commitment to sustainability and sharing and promoting these values with the global bartending community. As well as being the world's first carbon-neutral and Fair Trade certified rum, Flor de Caña is distilled using 100% renewable energy and all CO2 emissions produced during fermentation are captured and recycled. The brand has also planted one million trees since 2005.
